It is well known that WTP point estimates are sensitive to the choice regarding which observations should be included in aWTP estimation model as ‘yes’ (or “willing”) responses and which as ‘no’ (“not willing”) responses, when contingent valuation (CV) data are collected in formats that accommodate varying levels of “response intensity”1 (Akter et al. 2009, Champ, Alberini, and Correas 2005, Shaikh, Sun, and van Kooten 2007, Vossler et al. 2004, Samnaliev, Stevens, and More 2006, Broberg and Brannlund 2008). Comparison of contingent valuation and conjoint analysis in ecosystem management

Contingent valuation (CV) and conjoint analysis were used to estimate landowner’s willingness to pay (WTP) for ecosystem management on non-industrial private forest land. The results suggest that even when conjoint and CV questions are the same, except for rating and pricing format, respectively, WTP estimates are quite different. Since most conjoint models essentially count ‘maybe’ responses t...

A Non-Random Dropout Model for Analyzing Longitudinal Skew-Normal Response

In this paper, multivariate skew-normal distribution is em- ployed for analyzing an outcome based dropout model for repeated mea- surements with non-random dropout in skew regression data sets. A probit regression is considered as the conditional probability of an ob- servation to be missing given outcomes. A simulation study of using the proposed methodology and comparing it with a semi-parame...
